On Turtle Island, Native Lands, there are several remembrance areas to honour the memory of those slain in the massacre at Wounded Knee Creek, South Dakota in the United States on 29 December 1890.
There are no graphic images of the slain or the battle. Instead, there are memorials with notecards containing information about the tragic series of misunderstandings that led to this horrible event, an invitation to silently think about the people involved and the hope that by doing so there will be a better understanding between Native Americans and whites and abetter future.
