Making the Second Life camera go further

Client Menu CroppedAs my research into Second Life machinima begins, I’m finding a out a whole lot about the great resources available in the SL knowledge base itself. I tend to be an immersive learner - diving in first and then taking time out to read the directions.

I was very glad I chose to read directions last night. The key combination of CTL- ALT- D reveal two new menu - Client and Server - in my Second Life window. The Server menu I haven’t explored as yet and it looks like it pertains to land owners.

The Client menu has a wealth of options to explore. The Disable Camera Constraints option allows your camera to travel in a line of sight from your avatar to the furthest point you’re able to lock onto with your pointer’s cross hairs when holding down ALT and using the arrow key. This could be a lot of fun for camera work. You can also turn off Limit Select Distance to Touch from a distance.

I also found information on how to have more than one instance of Second Life open (you need to have two accounts). This tip is very handy for machinima!
The video tutorials - http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Video_Tutorials have a great range of information. My avatar - Pandora Kurrajong - and I will be taking full advantage of them in the weeks and months to come.

Please share your tips for SL machinima here — or send me an Instant Message the next time you’re in-world.
