Just finished watching an outstanding presentation by a project-based learning team from Parramatta Marist Brothers’ college.
The 4-week project focused on local environmental issues and the group I saw did outstanding research on several environmental issues.

The teachers involved set up a ning group - http://greenup2145.ning.com and then the students got to work.
Their research was used to create a multimedia presentation, with the promise of the top presentations going to their local MP.
Dean Groom, the ICT educator/coordinator and Project-based learning educator at PMHS, arranged for the students to present live over the internet to a group of educators on Ustream. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/desktoptest
I felt so privileged to see what these young men had to say. They used their multimedia presentation to full advantage (it beats slide shows hands down) and presented several recommendations to solve the issues they’d uncovered.
Because Ustream allows for participation from online users, I was able to ask them if their research had affected their behaviour. Their response was surprise I’d even asked.
“Of course - how could it not?” one of the group replied. They enthusiastically described what they did and wanted to do to make things better.
Wow. I got chills. Thanks so much to Dean for inviting those of us outside classrooms to take part in what you and Lucy did with these learners!

Just love that passion Kerry that ignites every time you see something creative or innovative.
Alister - so good to hear from you! The Black Forest’s gain was certainly our loss. Would love to hear what you’re doing with your students there!
Cheers
