Oz Ideas and the Australian Government 2020 Summit

Many thanks to Jim who has pointed me to the Oz Ideas website which enables those of us in 20.699 million who won’t be attending the 2020 summit to put our ideas forward.

Go to http://ozideas.wetpaint.com/ and choose the category of your choice. In addition to the ideas pages, there is a discussion forum. All/most postings are anonymous, so I guess someone is going to have fun sorting the wheat from the chaff. There is not much in the Education section yet, so go in and make your mark. A voting system will result in the “top 50 ideas”.

http://ozideas.wetpaint.com/ is an interesting variant on social networking, although it is mainly a wiki. While a lot of the postings are anonymous, you can also join the community.

There is also a petition that you can sign which says:

We, the undersigned good people of Australia, would like to present our top 50 ideas to you at the Australia 2020 Summit on April 19. We’ve been brainstorming online for the past two months at the grassroots site Oz Ideas. We know we weren’t invited, but we came up with some doozy ideas!

I’ve created a me.edu.au Community at http://me.edu.au/c/2020Summit

You can also make an official submission (online, posted or by phone) of up to 500 words on any of the topic areas through the government’s 2020 website. Info and the online form is available at http://www.australia2020.gov.au
Education and training is under the ‘Australian economy’ topic.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the 10 secretariats do start to use an online space for the adult portion of the Summit. The secretary answering the 2020 phone number had never heard of wikipedia, much less an “online social site”.

So I think its more likely that the youth summit might be the place where online tools begin to be used a little seriously. I’ve pointed Kate Ellis’s secretary at the me.edu.au/2020 space to give an idea of what might be attempted. Who knows, we might even see a me.gov.au domain pop up, although they’ll never find the moderators with experience. I think you’ll find a few .gov agencies knocking on the edna door shortly.

Did not see any person over the age of 65 at the summit dont they count anymore. they have more knowledge, from life, than most of the “well known” person there

    OK,

We’ve got the 2020Summit Community page. Now imagine it hangs off the official 2020 site. And points to the forums, broken into themes, each of which contains the relevant submissions, and forums where the ideas may be discussed.

So every interested citizen may register their me.edu.au and start their online education. Their SSO will lead to other services = tools and content = which might be in the education.edu.au space; some might be available on a .au domain far, far away. It’s a Learning account right? So that’s two promises Kevin can keep = Online forums and Learning Accounts.

So who’s going to do the moderating? I’ll vote for a few over 65’s, although they’ll need a few under 15’s in order to get an education.
