Schools Summit
The Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, has announced that Australian school children will have a voice at the Australia 2020 Summit.
All Australian primary and secondary schools will be invited to host their own Schools Summits in the lead up to the Australia 2020 Summit in April. Schools are invited to register to host a Schools Summit at http://australia2020.gov.au/schools/index.cfm. Schools can choose a convenient day and time to hold their summit at any time over a three week period beginning 17 March 2008.
School staff running the groups will be provided with detailed conversation starter material which will provide options for the discussion, as well as facilitation advice.
There will be three guides for participating in the Summit according to age ranges:
- Years 5 – 6;
- Years 7 – 10; and
- Years 11 – 12
The material will align with the States’ and Territories’ curriculum for each of the above age groups.

Youth Summit
The 2020 Youth Summit will be held in the lead up to the Australia 2020 Summit in Canberra on 12 and 13 April 2008.
100 young people (15 to 24 years of age) from around Australia will discuss the ten critical areas on the agenda for the Australia 2020 summit, as well as options for the establishment of an ongoing Australian Youth Forum.
The Summit will be co-chaired by the Minister for Youth, the Hon Kate Ellis MP and Hugh Evans, Young Australian of the Year for 2004.
Anyone between the ages of 15 - 24 can nominate to be a part of the Youth Summit.
