May Day, held on 1 May, is claimed as the birth of the international labour movement in 1890. Marches and rallies on May Day celebrate a vision of a fairer, just, and more sustainable world.
Centuries before that of course May Day was celebrated as the first day of summer in the northern hemisphere, with traditional May Pole dancing, the giving of May baskets, and the crowning of the Queen of May.
In Australia it has become Back to School Month, a day for celebrating the role schools play in the development of the nation.
Or you can celebrate
- National Family Reading Month with Ashton Scholastic,
- Fit4Fun month in Queensland,
- Jelly Baby Month, designed to make people aware of Juvenile Diabetes
- Information Awareness Month, aiming to increase public awareness of the breadth of the information industry
- or globally, Mother Goose Day, promoting a love of the warm tradition of Mother Goose rhymes.
Now, if none of those suit, you can target this Friday May 1 as the day when you get to grips with RSS. Someone has decided May Day is RSS day and this site provides a viewing of the Common Craft video on RSS, and some information about how you can access RSS feeds. There is also comprehensive information on the edna site.
