It’s sooooo exciting!!!!

There is only 2 weeks before the first education.au seminar for 2007 Challenging how knowledge is created - and the keynote speaker for the seminar, Jimmy Wales, is attracting a lot of attention with lots of conversations really starting to liven up.

Today, Saturday April 7, 2007 there is a full page feature article in the weekend Advertiser Review magazine (Adelaide’s major paper), by Samela Harris - interesting background information about the man behind Wikipedia and reflections on what makes Wikipedia such a phenomenon. The placement of this story and many others in various other media outlets reflects just how much interest there is to talk with Jimmy about how it all ticks - what makes it all happen?
….and the mass media is not the only place the conversations have been happening, there is a an online group associated with the Jimmy Wales seminar. More info about how to get involved at Kerrie’s blog. The group is talking about the phenomenon of Wikipedia and the use of wikis in educational contexts. 250 people joined the group in the first two day.

Issues and questions are starting to emerge from these and many other conversations which will provide for even further conversations when Jimmy arrives in Australia for the first time on the weekend before the first education.au seminar.

Adelaide 23 April, Perth 24 April, Sydney 26 April, and Melbourne 27 April.

I can’t wait for Mr Wales to shares his insights. We’re a small Perth group and we’re working on a collaborative live art project, called “TheBroth - The Global Mosaic”. One of the main aspects is the educational potential of the project. I believe collaborative learning has a big future ahead of it. Exciting times indeed!

Jimmy hey……what the hecks the excitement about ?

A great product no less but with a community consisiting of a zillion other luminaries one would have done better to get Dana Boyd across the oceans.

    K ? Where are we headed in 2008 ?

For me the opportunity to listen, discuss and debate with the people who have registered to attend each of the locations and with Jimmy Wales is the exciting part.

…..and guess who the speaker for the next seminar in August is??? ….you guessed it - it is danah boyd. danah’s visit will open yet another door on the discussions educators across Australia are having about knowledge and information in the 21st century. :-)

One Trackback/Pingback

  1. […] I know I said that he wasn’t worth $300 of my money when I can watch so much of him on the web already. But when Al Upton e-mailed a deal “Half price to see the expensive man” I got in quick and got the MYLU team tickets to his Adelaide seminar. […]
