Howard Rheingold has been working in the online world since the 1980’s, ‘….looking for new ways to connect with other people’. Last week I met Howard at the eDayz conference in Adelaide where he delivered his first keynote at the eDayz conference in Adelaide (his last visit to Australia was over 10 years ago).
Check out Michael Coghlan at Podding Downunder - Michael shares a few thoughts on Howard’s plenary session at eDayz.
Howard also delivered two workshops at the conference on the second day. At the workshop, I attended, he introduced himself to participants as a lifelong learner - inviting everyone to join in a conversation about the nuances of teaching and learning. He shared his recent experience of learning how to produce video and the connections he had made with people along this journey - giving us a look at some of the products of this work. Howard also shared some of the hazards and pitfalls of developing video.
What was particularly special about this workshop was the way in which Howard Rheingold also set the backdrop for the conversation between participants. He had shared a story about his learning journey and then invited others to comment - to join in the conversation. The stories connected, digressed, elaborated, agreed, built on the conversation around teaching and learning - leaving behind plenty more to talk about.
Howard showed a small snippet of a video about teaching and learning in Second Life - it would be great to watch the whole thing.
Don’t miss out on meeting and hearing Howard Rheingold - he will be the keynote speaker the education.au seminar in Melbourne - Tuesday 2 October
