Fireside chat with Howard Rheingold

This podcast features the fireside chat with Greg Black, CEO education.au and Howard Rheingold at the education.au seminar - A vision for the future - held in Melbourne Tuesday 2 October.

The chat covers a range of topics including:

  • critical issues for maximising the benefits of ICT for learning
  • strategies for mainstreaming innovative practices
  • and insight into Howard Rheingold’s personal aspirations.

During the chat Greg Black invites Howard to elaborate further on any issues from his keynote presentation in the morning. In doing so Howard talks further about the historical movement from writing through to the printing press and the internet and the changes this has made to collective action today. He goes on to say how the merging of the internet, the mobile phone and the digital computer is making things possible that we wouldn’t have imagined a few years ago.

Howard also talks about important trends to keep our eye on - ways in which people are doing things together in new ways.

The last question from a participant at the seminar asked what his next book might focus on if he was to write a next book - Howard’s answer - Cooperation and collective action.
