Great presentation, very useful in planning creative curriculum
Looking forwar d to seeing how all this works.
live blogging has got to be one of the worst uses of the new technology.
If something is worth reading, its worth spending a little time to get it right.
most of your audience will be reading later on - so where’s the big hurry it getting it published.
Its not like this is particularly new ideas - lots of people are commenting on it
the content is not so urgent that it needs to be published during the event
but it will benefit from a more thoughtful reworking than just a trite reporting of what the speaker said 30s ago.

The idea isn’t that the content is urgent, but to bring the even to people in an accessible way; to give those unable to attend the event the chance to take part, ask questions, get answers and to join in the conversation live as it happens.
It’s not about filtering it through my experience or anyone else’s — it’s another form of blogging.

I thought the live blogging experience was an interesting one.
Having used it for only an hour or so prior to this event, then I wondered how we would go with a 7 hour event, and I appreciated your dedication to the task Kerry, particularly in the afternoon sessions where on the live blog the participants (in the live blog) appeared to be more interested in sparring off each other than in hearing (through you) what Martin was actually saying.
Unfortunately in the latter part of the day, work got in the way, so my concentration was fragmented. I got a lot out of the morning session though.
I noticed on CoverItLive a microphone icon and I wondered if that means we could feed live sound into the blog? One of the participants in my trial on the weekend discovered that her Dragan Naturally Speaking software would feed into the comment space.
I think one of the big pluses of CoverItLive is that you don’t have to login or install any new software in order to add your comments to the “chat”.
Well done, on what was a huge sustained effort on your part.
I agree, Kerry. Particularly for people out in regional Australia, or working in supposedly cash strapped departments, real-time blogging is enormously useful. Makes you feel you can keep current despite the distance.

Thanks for that alison! That was the intent and it’s good to get that sort of feedback for education.au to use in budget planning. They have to justify the spend on little ol’ me spending time to set up the tool and then flying over to spend the day live blogging. It’s great when practitioners take the time to let us know whether or not we’re offering value and what we could be doing better. Cheers! KerryJ

The microphone icon is to shut off the sound effects, not for live audio streaming unfortunately.
A tool like they use for the Ed Tech live audio events or Ustream would be better suited to that. Perhaps we can look at those tools as well and evaluate what is most useful. My thoughts are that regional participants might have problems with the audio — so maybe a hybrid would be worth considering — running audio through Ustream and the Cover it Live tool for text. Hmmmm…
Media production tools is what I mean by “all this stuff”. Someone (our goddess) mentions an idea (of livestreaming to a blog) and that creative mind of yours goes into overdrive with how to combine the best of both. At least Coverlite is more interesting than IRC
So many tools. So many ways of going about things. Such tiny budgets, duplicating tiny budgets. And the best solution is always a hybrid.
