This is the first in four blog posts to summarise the first ‘proof of concept’ innovation project.
Phase 1: Discover and create my learning identity
Approach
The first stage of the myedna POC aimed to create a personal learning environment. This allows educators to aggregate their edna contribution and resources as well as from any other website. For example it could include content from email lists, RSS feeds, blogs, flickr, and numerous other online services. Aggregated, this reflects the educator’s learning journey.
The myedna vision is a place to ‘watch me learn’. Therefore only publicly available material is aggregated and published. This fits a myedna is a place to aggregate and describe resources (tagging), not to a place to create content.
What we did
Prototype an AJAX environment akin to a start page where educators can:
- Tag and rate resources using a stylish interface
- Search for edna and federated collection resources
- Display RSS feeds
- Maintain a calendar
Innovations
- Built a Taxonomy Directed Folksonomy. When users are creating their tag (Folksonomy), myedna suggests tags based on the ScOT thesaurus (Taxonomy).
- Aggregate their multiple online identities into a central myedna environment.
